Hot times at two tracks! The first day was so hot Mr. Wakae passed out from heat exhaustion. But we had some very fast racing, including the first-ever IUF 700c events after dark. The second day was at the 1964 Olympic Stadium, with a marching band and big opening ceremony to start off the day.

John Foss > The pack.
John Foss > I thought 66+ was a ridiculous age to start an age group, especially based on the tiny number of entries. That was until I saw these two, Michiko Morikawa and Tokiyo Haseyama. We should all strive to be like them.
John Foss > After about 100 meters, Michiko fell off. No assistance with remounting allowed! This was where she showed her stuff, by not giving up no matter what. She tried and tried, while her opponent lapped her. It was killing us to watch!
John Foss > Finally someone gave her a boost, while the Referee discretely looked the other way. She finished the 800m in 10:57.95. Any lesser rider would have given up.
